Bioinformatics Engineer (Consultant/Contractor)
Company Overview
TECQMIND is an end-to-end AI professional services and staffing partner focused on the "how." We build the specialized teams and infrastructure required to turn AI potential into production-scale reality. In the Biotech sector, we provide our clients with the domain-specific technical talent necessary to bridge the gap between high-throughput biological research and AI-driven discovery.
This is a contract position where the candidate will be hired by TECQMIND and deployed to work directly with our premier Biotech clients.
The Role
As a Bioinformatics Engineer, you are responsible for the architecture and automation of biological data pipelines. You will design, build, and maintain the systems that process Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), proteomics, or metabolomics data. Your mission is to move biological data from raw output to "AI-ready" status, ensuring scalability, reproducibility, and precision.
You will act as a critical technical link between US-based research teams and our specialized technology and manufacturing partners in Taiwan.
Key Responsibilities
Pipeline Development & Automation: Design and implement robust, scalable bioinformatics pipelines (e.g., RNA-seq, DNA-seq, ChIP-seq) using workflow managers like Nextflow, Snakemake, or Cromwell.
Data Engineering for Biology: Architect Data Lakes and "Model Gardens" specifically for biological assets, ensuring seamless integration between wet-lab outputs and computational models.
Cloud Infrastructure: Deploy and manage high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud-based bioinformatics workloads on AWS (HealthOmics), GCP (Life Sciences), or Azure.
Tooling & Optimization: Maintain and optimize common bioinformatics tools (GATK, BWA, Samtools) and develop custom scripts in Python or R to handle non-standard data types.
Global Technical Liaison: Coordinate with our Taiwan-based tech partners to standardize data formats and ensure computational resources are synchronized across international teams.
Continuous Optimization: Implement version control for pipelines and data (DVC) and ensure all workflows meet rigorous reproducibility and security standards (HIPAA, GDPR).
Required Qualifications
Education: Master’s or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Programming Mastery: High proficiency in Python is a must. Deep experience with R (Bioconductor) and shell scripting (Bash).
Pipeline Experience: Proven track record of building and deploying production-grade bioinformatics pipelines at scale.
Infrastructure Skills: Strong experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native services.
Biological Foundation: A deep understanding of molecular biology, genomics, and common sequencing technologies.
Highly Desired: Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual Proficiency: Professional fluency in both English and Mandarin (written and verbal). This is highly desired to facilitate deep technical synchronization with our Taiwan-based partners.
Machine Learning Familiarity: Experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) and their application to biological data (e.g., variant calling or protein folding).
Taiwan Market Knowledge: Previous experience working with Taiwanese research institutes or genomic sequencing centers is a major plus.
